Nervosa & Your Teeth

Bulimia Nervosa is an Eating Disorder
 
A person with Bulimia Nervosa may eat a lot of food at one time, make themselves vomit, go a long time without eating, exercise too much, and use medicine to lose weight.  It is a physical and mental problem.

Bulimia Nervosa damages oral health, some of the physical problems caused by Bulimia Nervosa:

  • Teeth stains
  • Bleeding of gums
  • Rotting of teeth because of acid in vomit
  • Dry mouth
  • Damage to tooth fillings

These are Signs of Bulimia Nervosa:

  • Brushing teeth too much, as many as 7-8 times per day
  • Gum chewing, drinking lots of diet soft drinks, too much rinsing with mouthwash, sensitive teeth, and sore throat

How to Help Someone who has Bulimia Nervosa:

Try talking to the person and tell them to get help from their Doctor.  Their Dentist can help them with their oral health problems.
